List Of Supported Network Adapters BootManage TCP/IP BOOT-PROM Demo Version BootManage TCP/IP BOOT-PROM Price List

The BootManage® TCP/IP BOOT-PROM allows the automated and unattended remote installation of Windows NT/2000 and other operating systems (OS) on Intel based PCs, including several necessary reboots. Even more, the BootManage® TCP/IP BOOT-PROM assists in remote controlling the Windows NT/2000 bootstrap process. With Windows 3.x/95/98/ME or DOS PC clients, a remoteboot is supported, where Windows 95/3.x and DOS PCs can be run diskless.

Server Independent
As the boot server, all operating systems may be used that support a TCP/IP network and run TFTP and BOOTP or DHCP. If these protocols are not included with your OS, you may want to use the BootManage® BOOTP & TFTP Server.

Automated Client Installation
The BootManage® TCP/IP BOOT-PROM allows the completely automated and unattended over-the-network installation of the following operating systems on a client PC:

  • Microsoft Windows 2003 Server
  • Microsoft Windows XP
  • Microsoft Windows 2000
  • Microsoft Windows NT 3.5x and 4.0
  • Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME
  • Microsoft Windows 3.x, Windows for Workgroups 3.1x
  • DOS (MS-DOS, IBM DOS, DR DOS, Novell DOS)
  • Linux

Remote Boot / Diskless Operation
The BootManage® TCP/IP BOOT-PROM allows a client PC to remote boot the following operating systems (some of them diskless) from a network server:

  • Microsoft Windows 95 and 98
  • Microsoft Windows 3.x, Windows for Workgroups 3.1x
  • DOS (MS-DOS, IBM DOS, DR DOS, Novell DOS)
  • SCO Unix v5 (Everest)
  • Linux

Supported Network Adapters & Chipsets
Every network adapter type requires a different BootManage® TCP/IP BOOT-PROM type. Please specify the exact and unique manufacturer code of your network adapter with every purchase order, including the network connector type (TP, BNC, AUI, Combo). Please find out the network adapter and select the corresponding Type-Code.

Functionality for Windows NT/2000
The BootManage® TCP/IP BOOT-PROM provides a fully unattended installation and configuration technique for Windows NT/2000. It is also possible to control, modify, and configure Windows NT/2000 clients at boot time.

Completely automated and unattended installation of Windows NT/2000 on a client PC, including hard disk partitioning and formatting, allowing complete control of all installation steps, including various restarts during PC installation.

Control of start procedure and Registry keys of the Windows NT/2000 PCs.

These two functions are provided by the BootManage® TCP/IP BOOT-PROM. The complete installation process automatically works after turning on the PC for the first time. If necessary, the administrator can control the "everyday" boot process of the Windows NT/2000 client. Expensive on-site installation and configuration work by technical support staff is not necessary anymore. While you increase the availability of the equipment, saved money can be spent elsewhere.

Protocol standards
The BootManage® TCP/IP BOOT-PROM uses the standardized protocols BOOTP, DHCP and TFTP, therefore every common operating system can be used as network boot server.

BOOTP/DHCP autoselect
The BootManage® TCP/IP BOOT-PROM automatically detects whether it works with a BOOTP or DHCP server, and continues to "speak" the detected protocol.

Windows NT/2000 DHCP Server
The BootManage® TCP/IP BOOT-PROM works with the Windows NT/2000 DHCP Server that is included in the Windows NT/2000 Server. Should you encounter limitations with this software, it is possible to switch to the bootix implementation (BOOTP Server) at any time.

Detailed Description
The BootManage® TCP/IP BOOT-PROM allows remote booting IBM compatible PCs in a TCP/IP network environment. Plugged into a network adapter's free ROM socket or flashed into the onboard FLASH memory, the code takes control over the PC at boot time and starts it using a boot image that is loaded from a server over the network.

For this purpose, vendor independent standard protocols (TCP/IP, BOOTP or DHCP, TFTP) are being used that come by default with the TCP/IP package of most UNIX implementations. Besides UNIX, operating systems like Novell NetWare, IBM OS/2, Microsoft Windows 3.x/95/98/ME/NT/2000 are also supported as boot servers.

Also, for the operating system to be run on the client PC, several possibilities are available. The BootManage® TCP/IP BOOT-PROM supports a wide variety of PC network software products like PC-NFS, PC/TCP, Novell NetWare and much more.

Further functions of the BootManage® TCP/IP BOOT-PROM are password protected access of local floppy drives and the possibility of booting a large amount of PC's using a single boot image file. Booting PC's over routers as well as using IP multicast is also supported. Additionally, a menu function allows to choose one of several different boot images to start the PC. Utility programs to create and administrate boot images are provided.

Further, you can specify how the BootManage® TCP/IP BOOT-PROM should behave when starting the PC. This boot configuration is "burned into" the PROM device, so you have to specify it (if different from the standard configuration) with your purchase order. For this purpose, please order the BootManage® TCP/IP BOOT-PROM configuration sheet. Without this sheet, always the standard configuration is assumed.

Manual
The BootManage® TCP/IP BOOT-PROM User's Manual describes the installation and configuration of the BootManage® TCP/IP BOOT-PROM and related utility programs in detail. Further, it provides step-by-step installation examples for different network software packages as well as troubleshooting hints. One manual ships with every initial delivery of the BootManage® TCP/IP BOOT-PROM.

Utility Diskette
One utility disk ships with every initial delivery of the BootManage® TCP/IP BOOT-PROM. On the utility diskette you find the following powerful tools:

BPSHELL
menu based program to create boot image files

BMIMAGE
comandline program to create and administer boot image files (provides substantially more configuration options than BPSHELL)

BPUTIL
provides several different functions on the client PC at boot time, such as patching ASCII and binary information, TFTP file transfer, controlling floppy drive access and many more

BPMENU
menu system to select between several alternative boot images (even between different operating systems) at PC boot time.

BMFDISK
easy to use multi-function tool for hard disk manipulation from the commandline (partitioning and formatting of the hard disk, read and write physical blocks, etc.)

BPBOOT
special bootstrap loader for Windows NT/2000

BMDRV
Windows NT/2000 device driver which allows communication with the BootManage® TCP/IP BOOT-PROM
