"PXE-E36: Error received from TFTP server"

SYMPTOM

When being started, the PXE client comes up with the PXE copyright message and completes the DHCP phase, but then displays:

PXE-E36: Error received from TFTP server

Depending on the PXE client's system setup boot device list configuration, the PC then either stops or tries to boot from the next boot device in the system setup boot device list.

CAUSE

The "PXE-E36" error indicates that the PXE client received a TFTP error packet from the TFTP server. This means that the TFTP server has encountered an error of some sort, and wants to inform the PXE client about this.

RESOLUTION

If the PXE client does not display a textual error message, check the TFTP server log. This should contain more detailed information about the error and what might have caused it.
