"Unable to start TCP/IP protocol driver service" error in BartPE

SYMPTOM

When the network is started via the PENETCFG plugin in BartPE, the message box saying "Installing network devices" is displayed for an unusually long time, and eventually the following error message is displayed:

Unable to start TCP/IP protocol driver service

CAUSE

One possible cause of this problem is that the target PC does not have enough physical memory. Although the amount of physical memory is sufficient to hold the BartPE image itself, it is not sufficient to suit the additional memory requirements when BartPE starts up and initializes its components.

RESOLUTION

Add physical memory to the target PC and/or reduce the size of the WIndows PE / BartPE boot image by removing unused components.
