Boot Services

In the context of network booting, the term "Boot Services" comprises the server processes that are used for booting a computer (desktop, laptop, or server) over the network.

If the computer is equipped with a TCP/IP BOOT-PROM or a PXE PROM network boot code, it requires the following network boot services:

DHCP or BOOTP

The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), or the BOOTstrap Protocol (BOOTP) are used to provide a network booted computer with an IP address and additional configuration parameters, as well as the name and location of a network boot file (a so-called boot loader or boot image).

The bootix BootManage BOOTP Server is the bootix implementation of a BOOTP server for various operating system platforms.

TFTP

Using the Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP), a network booted computer can download its assigned boot image, i.e. the network boot file that is used to start the computer from the network.

The bootix BootManage TFTP Server is the bootix implementation of a TFTP server for various operating system platforms.
