Diskless Node

The term "Diskless Node" denotes a machine that has no local mass storage media attached, and boots its operating system from a network server. For this, a diskless node must be equipped with a network boot code, such as the the TCP/IP BOOT-PROM or PXE PROM code.

Diskless systems are often used as clients in terminal server environments. This provides the advantage that no operating system and application management is required on the client side. Also, as the actual computing takes place on the terminal server, the client systems can be implemented using cheap, low-performance hardware.

The bootix BootManage Administrator is the bootix boot management solution for diskless nodes.
